The Cheeki Rafiki incident, loss of a keel with catastrophic consequence, seems to have some valuable lessons in it that may contribute to the survival and rescue of crews in the future. Of course, the true events may never be known, but what is known can be valuable to think through.

Are there any specific procedures that would serve as Best Practices when keel failure is a potentially imminent issue?
