In January 2009 we checked in to Panama at Puerto Obaldia 8 40.55N X 7722.346W We were able to check in with Customs, Immigration and get our Panamian cruising permit - total cost $190 US All person were required to go ashore.
Milvina anchored in 10 meters of thick mud - good holding. As we approached land from Columbia we had a good wind from the north with swells of 4-5 meters. In the anchorage there was a slow swell of 1+meter coming directly in from the north. Getting into the dinghy was interesting and getting ashore on the tractor tires on the rough concrete dock was very interesting. All the official were friendly and helpful - but slow - it took us over 2 hours to complete the paperwork.
I would not remain her over night but there are very safe anchorages near by - one before on the Columbian side and two a short distance west.
