I 'm currently in Hout Bay Yacht Club. When enquiring about checking out I I was advised by the Royal Cape Yacht Club that I should check into Cape Town Customs otherwise on leaving I would be fined for not checking in. I had been in Hout Bay for 10 days when I went to Customs & they confirmed that I needed to check in. They checked me in but didn 't ask when I arrived. I am not sure if you could simply go to check out saying that you had just arrived in Cape Town.
I was told the check out process is to request a berth in RCYC and berth there while you clear formalities. If they cannot fit you in, they will give you a letter that you can take to customs & immigration to check out. With the letter there is no need to take your boat up to Cape Town.
