Navionics Compact Flash cards

Hello,

We are hoping that the this forum may be able to help. We are currently half way through our circumnavigation but have been unable to get charts for our old Raymarine E120 plotter for the second half of our trip. Navionics have stopped supporting this system and we have been unable to find any existing stocks of them in any shops.

By any chance, does anyone have any Navionics CF cards for the E120 that cover the Indian Ocean, Africa, South Atlantic and Greenland? We would be very happy to buy, borrow, rent etc them if at all possible. The alternative is a very expensive option of replacing our chart plotters - something we would very much like to avoid for the time being if at all possible.

I should add that we always carry paper passage charts, iPhones and IPads with current, updated charts as well as OpenCPN. However, we find that it is always reassuring to have the chart plotter on deck and the redundancy that this provides us.

Okay, then lets try and format the card and reload the charting to see if that will allow the charts to display on your unit.

To format and reset your Navionics card, follow the steps below:
1.
Insert your Navionics card into the card reader on your Mac.
2.
Left click on the “Spotlight” icon.
3.
Type in “Disk Utility” and then press the “Enter” key.
4.
On the left panel, left click on the SD card.
5.
Left click on the “Erase” tab at the top. (Located next to “First Aid”, “RAID” and “Restore”)
6.
Choose “FAT” or "MS DOS (FAT)" from the “Format” drop menu.
7.
Left click on the “Erase” button.
8.
You will receive a message asking if you want to erase the card. Click “Erase”.
9.
Empty your Trash bin on your computer.
10.
Copy the "ntag.txt" file attached to this email directly onto the cartridge once the format is complete.
11.
Launch the Chart Installer and perform the Freshest Data Update to download the chart files back to your card.

That's really interesting. The solution we had is to use CF cards and replace charts we don't want with ones we do. ...Didn't know you could format new cards. Thanks

We have an e120 and needed new charts for the Western Caribbean. I ordered the charts we needed and a CF card and card reader arrived. I downloaded the charts we needed and assumed they would work on our E120. They did not BUT I found a solution.

Contact navionics and explain that the new version of the installer does not format the cf card in a format compatible with e120. They will send you instruction on how to reformat your card and will send you a .txt file to copy onto it.

All is now working for us.

Before you buy the adapter card and/or check with Raymarine. From personal experience, the adapter will not work with all their plotters that take cf cards.

I think you can buy Navionics charts on SD cards and transfer them to CF cards with the card reader they supply.
