In summer we sailed from Scotland to the Faroe 's where we left our boat for a month before continuing onto Iceland. There are no real facilities for leaving a boat unattended in the Faroe 's but we managed to come to an expensive arrangement with the harbour master at Torshafn. There are a small number of pontoon berths in Torshafn reserved for short stays. All have electricity. The sailing club has WiFi, laundry, toilet and showers. Great cafe 's and restaurants on the dockside. Bus to airport is about an hour.

There are excellent repair facilities at Torshafn and a good supply of small vessel chandlery. As the Faroe 's are outside Europe the VAT can be reclaimed in European yachts in transit so be sure to keep receipts which you submit to the customs office at the harbour.

Tidal streams run strongly and can make for fast passages. Anchorages are generally not subjected to strong tidal streams.

Expect fog but hope for sunshine.

Fantastic wildlife both at sea and ashore. If a "Grint" is in progress then don 't be surprised if you get offered a chunk of Pilot Whale. If you do choose to except beware it contains a lot of mercury.

45,000 Faroe Islanders with a well described genome and a unique cluster of inherited disorders. A very isolated community that is very difficult and expensive to get to. No cheap flight airlines go to the the Faroe 's and most flights are via Denmark though when we visited we did get direct flights from Edinburgh. We booked through "Alternative Airlines" and saved a small fortune.

Great place to visit and highly recommended.
