Daria Back in 2007? when John Lytle and I re-started the OCC Caribbean net we announced it as being open to OCC and RCC members. Since 2009 I have been running the NE USA SSB net each year June to September. Initially, I announced it as being open to OCC, RCC and CCA members. Last year (with a lot of help from Mary Velaque) we widened it to OCC, RCC, CCA, CA and "other cruisers in the area. We publicised it within the OCC and the CCA. In fact I don 't think we got any contacts outside OCC/RCC and CCA.
On the NE US net we do sometimes lack enough particpants to make the Net useful, so input from members of other clubs would be useful to build up numbers. Also, it does serve to highlight the OCC name with the possible effect of attracting new members, as you suggest.
I will be announcing the Net details in the May E-bulletin and the Newsletter and I think this year I 'll send a direct invitation to the RCC, CCA, CA and SSCA to publish in their newsletters/websites. I am mindful of the Cruiseheimers Net (to which we also connect) and I don 't want to compete with them. They, of course, operate year-round and cover a very much wider area- Cuba to Labrador! At peak, they have up to 80 vessels connecting so they are very much a position-reporting net.
