As Russell Frazer (Blue Highway) will not be cruising in Maine this summer I have recruited a small team of 3 OCC volunteers as net controllers to to run the NE US SSB Net. This net normally operates from 1 July through mid-September and, subject to propagation, covers the area from Nova Scotia to Cape Cod. The net is branded "The Ocean Cruising Club NE USA SSB net" and is operated by OCC members but is open for participation by any cruisers in the area with SSB.

The net will start today (8 July 2020) and will operate daily Monday through Saturday at 0700 local time (EDT) or 1100 UTC. It will broadcast on 6227 kHz USB with an alternate frequency of 4036 kHz USB. The purpose of the net is to connect cruisers in the NE area, to deal with any medical or other emergencies, to provide and exchange local information of interest to cruisers and to encourage social contact between cruisers, subject to applicable Covid-19 restrictions.

Effective Monday 24 August the Net will change the order in which they manage the 6MHz and 4MHz operating frequencies. The Net will open at 0700 local time (1100Z) on 4036 kHz USB and change to 6227 kHz at 0715 (1115Z).

The net controllers have experienced poor propagation on the 6MHz frequency and as the majority of participants are in the Maine area , local to the controllers, the 4MHz frequency is more appropriate for closer contacts. The 6MHz frequency will benefit longer distance contacts.
