I plan to depart Tanger on May 5 and sail to Mindelo, Cape Verde with a pit stop in Canaries. I write to inquire if anyone has recent experience with this passage, OR Mindelo/Cape Verde in general. I understand the eastern island might not be safe; BUT, I understand that the western (Mindelo) are fine. Anyone have any thoughts on this subject, please?

Thank you and best regards,

I spent late October last year to early January this year in Cape Verde, mostly Sal and Mindelo.    I had no security problems at anchor, or when docked.

However, one night, one of my crew, while standing near a hotel in Mindelo, waiting to get into a concert, got mugged and robbed.

I would return to Mindelo (and to Cape Verde in general), but Mindelo is a city, and safety is relative.

Dear all. Thanks for your discussion regarding sailing in Cape Verde. I have a rather prosaic question. I need a propane bottle filled when in Cape Verde. Does anyone know if this is possible? Is propane available, and if so, will they fill bottles  or do they provide bottles? Many thanks for your help on this! Nigel

We are there right now, but very soon leaving. I would put the question to the very good crew of Marina Mindelo, at reception@marinamindelo.cv
We did not fill any gas here, but I belive it is possible. The marina staff are fantastic here, very helpful!

Hello,
to fill gaz, there is a whole industrial gaz plant a few hundred meters from the marina: exit the pontoons, turn right and walk straight until the road turns left, you'll be in front of the factory.
Bring change, lovely thing is they will provide you with beautifully handwritten receipts, guarantees, etc to fill a souvenir book :)
