Here's an important public service announcement from a cruiser in Fakarava, Tuamotu. I have anonymised this report which first appeared on our OCC Pacific Crossing WhatsApp Groups where the author offers more information.

‘After years of managing our fish intake in the Caribbean to avoid ciguatera poisoning, it took only two months before we failed in the Pacific. I got hit last week with a horrible case of ciguatera poisoning -- La Gratte, as they say in French Polynesia. I wouldn't wish this malady on my worst enemy. If you have an eager spear fisher onboard the catching won't be hard. But the choosing is too risky, as we have learned.’
