After 17 years of unblemished service both of our chart plotters (one at the chart table and one at the helm) died last year and so we began this year with 2 new Raymarine Axioms. They look great and the one at the chart table does all that is expected of it (apart from occasionally dropping the wifi connection to the shiny new Quantum radar). The Axiom at the helm is proving a disappointment. Early on in the Pacific crossing it triggered a whole series of heart-stopping man overboard alarms. It seems a rain-shower is sufficient to trigger the touch screen MOB button. After that, we learned to deactivate the touch screen but then struggled to reactivate it as, when wet, the swipe right on/off command becomes unusable. We cover it with a canvass cover when on passage but contact with wet canvass now creates chart plotter chaos. We are reluctant to use the hard cover as it will almost certainly get blown overbaord at some stage.
Any idea? Perhaps a perspex cover that flips up? Anyone else suffered the same issues? Simon
