Corinto – 12°27.00'N, 87°10.00'W
Anthea Cornell Mollymawk of Hamble 1996 Corinto, NICARAGUA We stayed here for 48 hours to wait for a Papagayo gale to blow itself out before continuing southwards. US$75 for a 41ft yacht and 4 people, but a delightful visit - warm people and huge markets at Chinandega, a 45 minute bus ride away (but don’t tell the authorities you have been out of Corinto; paperwork and charges are reported to multiply!). Corinto is also a limited but useful provisioning spot - try the rum and ground coffee! Golfito, COSTA RICA At present a nightmare to clear out of Costa Rica here and probably to clear in, too. The Port Captain and Immigration officer seem to play Cox and Box, and you can only clear when both are available. There were also 2 incidents of theft - an outboard and a liferaft - while we were there. However, the town is pleasant enough, with a useful Freeport and a good, cheap bus service. Supermarket supplies are rather limited. We had a pleasant stay anchored off Las Gavitas Hotel, with access to swimming pool.
