If you keep your boat there for 6 months or more, all marinas average out to be about the same price. Monastir is certainly the least expensive for stays of less than 6 months. All berthing is bows/stern to the quay.

l) transport/air services) Monastir has an international airport with several charter flights a week from the UK and Germany. It is an inexpensive place to have family and friends visit.

m) hospital Yes

n) anything else The antifouling paint is extremely effective, tin based and manufactured locally under license from Trans-Ocean.

17) FIRST HAND RECOMMENDATIONS OR WARNINGS Monastir Marina is perhaps the least expensive marina in the western Mediterranean. Its warm, dry weather would make it an ideal place to ‘dry out’ while treating osmosis. However, at the present time, there is no suitable equipment for removing gel coat. Labour is inexpensive but Tunisians have more goodwill than craftsmanship. (Sanding a hull is one thing but I wouldn’t trust them with a grinder). It is very easy to import boat spares and equipment if it is sent directly to the Monastir airport. The Customs officer at the marina will even drive you to the airport and process the paperwork.

Hi folks - We are considering wintering (Nov to Feb or March) in Tunisia.  About half of that time, we will be working on the boat (both in the water and on the hard) and the other half will be back in the USA.  We have recently been warned about increased political instability in Tunisia.  Any information or recommendations from the group would be appreciated.

Thanks, Chris
