Positions are taken from GPS using WGS84 datum and plotted on CM93 electronic charts published in 2010. These are also referred to WGS84 datum.
Depths given are below chart datum i.e. charted depth.
Grenada, which includes the northern islands of Carriacou and Petit Martinique is very beautiful. For anyone making a one-year N Atlantic circuit we would recommend it as the arrival point in the Caribbean, possibly after a stop in Barbados. One then has the whole winter to cruise N, leaving for the return passage to Europe from the Virgin Islands bound for Bermuda or the Azores before the hurricane season.
It is definitely worth exploring Grenada, and the famous Grenada mini-buses are the best way to do this. They have evocative names, e.g. ‘The Widow Maker’, ‘De Devils Friend’ and they are driven with panache. You will be crowded in with local people, and the music is loud. But they are cheap, friendly and fun. For the more sedate there are plenty of day tour operators and hire cars. Both the chocolate factory and the nutmeg processing plants are certainly worth seeing.
   Carriacou, Tyrell Bay (12°27´·5N 61°29´·4W).
A pleasant and well sheltered harbour. There are many moorings, but plenty of space to anchor with modest shops ashore. It is easy to get a bus into Hillsborough, were there are bigger shops. Tyrell Bay has some bars, a boatyard and a regular cruisers BBQ ashore each week.
   St. Georges (12°02´N 61°45´W).
The capital of Grenada, where there are adequate facilities. The lagoon is now almost completely filled by a large marina and it would be difficult to anchor there. Most yachts now anchor outside the harbour (12°02´·49N 61°45´.42W). Expect to roll. We have been told it is permissible to anchor in the Careenage (12°03´·1N 61°45´.0W) but we did not attempt this on this visit and there no yachts there. Certainly, in the past, it was possible to go stern to in the W part of the Careenage, with an anchor out ahead and stern lines tied to the railings, as Gavin has done.
St. Georges has all facilities that a cruiser might need. The centre of activity has moved to the cruise ship dock area (12° 03´·1N 61°45´·2W). This is close to the bus station, so if visiting from another anchorage it is convenient.
   Prickly Bay (11° 59´·9N 61°45´·62W)
This is a beautiful harbour and, between us, we have arrived there from the Canaries on six occasions. A port of entry and a true ‘landfall in paradise’. Now, like much of the S coast of Grenada, it is very crowded. Many boats spend long periods in this area (some of them years) as it out of the main hurricane belt. A lot of them work casually, without paying tax. As a result visiting yachts are not always popular with the locals. We did not visit Prickly Bay on this occasion, but chose instead Mount Hartman Bay. We anchored in position 11°59´·92N 61°45´·63W. This was clear of the moorings, had good holding and it was convenient for going ashore at the marina. We would recommend an approach passing E of the shoal patch at 11° 59´·5 N 61° 44´·

Grenada – Prickly Bay
The yachtie central of Grenada although we had a fairly rolly time on our mooring buoy just outside of the channel. Good wifi can be found ashore in the lovely Yacht Club bar with regular steel drum band performances/bingo nights and more.

Grenada – St George’s Yacht Club
A much cheaper, more laid back and slightly more central option than the Camper & Nicholson Port Louis Marina next door. Good facilities (Electricity, Water, Fuel, Laundry, Wifi, Restaurant/Bar with a great view). Helpful staff who will pilot you into your berth (usually stern to) and on the cheap bus route the charming town one way or the lovely beach/diving sport of Grande Anse Bay. Finding nightlife was quite a challenge though.

Grenada – Ile De Ronde
Lovely, well protected anchorage with great snorkeling and a good beach that is easy to land on in a dinghy.
