Positions are taken from GPS using WGS84 datum and plotted on CM93 electronic charts published in 2010. These are also referred to WGS84 datum. Depths given are below chart datum i.e. charted depth. After several visits, Dominica remains one of our favourite places. Lacking an international airport it is not overwhelmed by tourists, and advertises itself as the Caribbean Nature Island. Long ago Portsmouth had a (probably exaggerated) bad reputation for security and for aggressive boat buoys. This has now changed completely. The locals have established themselves as PAYS (Portsmouth Association of Yacht Services). Boat buoys take turns to greet visiting yachts, there are some moorings and a dinghy dock. There is even a water buoy where you can top up your tanks. More importantly PAYS run a security patrol around the anchorage overnight and whether or not using one of their moorings you benefit from this. There is plenty of space to anchor. Facilities ashore are fairly basic, but all the necessities can be had. PAYS will organise gas bottle refills for a stunningly modest price. They also do a reasonably priced weekly BBQ for visiting cruisers. A day tour round the island is highly recommended and should include the capital, Rousseau (where, at the splendid botanical gardens, you can see what happens to a bus in a hurricane), Trafalgar Falls and the Carrib reservation. Do not miss Dominica, the least spoiled eastern Caribbean island.
