Port Antonio – 18°18.22 'N, 76°30.50 'W

Place Name: Port Antonio , Errol Flynn Marina, Jamaica Latitude and Longitude: 18°11.26’N 76°26.71’W Date of Information: March 2008 Submitted by: Graeme & Gillian Mulcahy Comment: Port Antonio - entrance channel at appr. 18°11.26’N 76°26.71’W . Marina to port after passing through well buoyed (lit) channel to SW of this position.
We arrived here from Cuba as the first major stage in working our way east. Various sources counsel caution in visiting Jamaica, but what we have found here is a secure, friendly, economical and under utilized marina. Currently it is $0.75 a foot (+water & electricity) in the marina or $10/night at anchor or on a buoy for use of all marina facilities (showers, wifi etc). Given that elsewhere in the Carribean it is common to pay $3 for a shower, the latter is a good deal.
The adjacent town has a good market and reasonable supermarkets (by Carribean standards), and there do not appear to be major issues and we have confidence in leaving the boat for local touring. From our current experience, here Near the NE corner of Jamaica) is to be highly recommended as a staging post for passages east/west or north/south, and may be particularly useful for those visiting Cuba if current restrictions continue on the use of Santiago de Cuba (see message under appropriate heading)

Update 2009 - Bob and Kathy Groves - Easy Go - We spent April 2009 at anchor in Port Antonio and confirm that all the comments are up to date. A very safe and vibrant community. The marina is an excellent facility with superior staff. Whether you stay at anchor, mooring or dock this is one of the best facilities in the Caribbean.
