Stromboli – 38°48.30'N, 15°14.18'E
In July 2011, anchored at night in very calm conditions W of the old jetty and just W of a gaggle of moored RIBs in 13m opposite a bar/disco (high intensity blue light and rock music). Had to move next morning for the water tanker (grey hull, white/orange superstructure - hoots a lot).

Anchoring between the RIBs and the old jetty would be better as not in the way.

Most boats were anchored around Pta. della Lena in about 7m and some were on buoys off San Vicenzo. Red pick-up buoys, reputed to cost 50 euro/night, quality unknown.

Cala Zimmari – 38°37.36'N, 15°03.54'E
In July 2011, 21 boats, including our own, ignored/didn 't know about the prohibition on anchoring. Not surprising as it is a nice sheltered anchorage only open E round to SW.

Vulcano – 38°25.00'N, 14°57.42'E
Pto. Levante (38deg 25.0min N, 14deg 57.7E approx.)

There are now (July 2011) new pontoons (not investigated), one on N and one on S side of the bay which relieves some of the presssure on the anchorage.

Pto. Ponente (38deg 25.2min N, 14deg 57.2 E approx.)

There are at least 3 moorings in the anchorage area each of which (in July 2011) was marked only by a very small 1/2 litre water bottle and which represent a hazard as well as restricting the anchoring area somewhat.

The best holding appeared to be on the SW side of the bay. Some swell while we were there.

Cefalu W. Anchorage – 38°02.24'N, 14°01.00'E
The '300m off the beach ' rule prevents best advantage being taken of the shelter offered by the headland and none at all of that by the mole. However, some was obtained in a NE f4 which died away at night, leaving almost no swell (andif you 're prepared to 'borrow ' some of the 300m, the shelter improves, of course). Bottom sand. Easy dinghy in to the mole (steps half way along) to visit the old town - some small mini-markets and a good number of fruit and veg stalls. Self-service launderette in the Via Porto Salvo, off Corso Ruggero, the 'main drag ' up to the cathederal.

Palermo – 38°07.36'N, 13°22.18'E
The Salapacore pontoons are very nearly at the head of the La Cala basin, on the port side. They are very convenient for visiting the old town (opera house etc.). 45 Euro/night for 11.55m in July 2011 but there was (temorarily) no water and we didn 't find any other facilities. The nautical bookshop directly across the street has a very good selection of charts. There is a Carrefour supermarket off the S corner of Giardino Garribaldi a couple of streets S of the cala.

Termini Imerese – 37°59.06'N, 13°43.00'E
The first pontoon to port is run by the Club Vela di Termini Imerese. There are no ormeggiatori but the very friendly members will help you into any berth they know to be vacant. If the president or secretary turn up you may have to pay. (20 Euro for 11.80m in July 2011)

San Vito lo Capo – 38°10.56'N, 12°44.00'E
In early July 2011, there was space on all the pontoons (each of which is run by a different concern) and the ormaggiatori were prepared to do deals.

Trapani – 38°01.00'N, 12°30.00'E
Absolutely vital to call Trapani VTS Ch 16/10 before entry. If you do not the Guardia Costria will, at the very least, give you a hard time and you risk a fine.

Among the mooring options are:

Anchoring in the outer harbour. VTS will direct you as to where they want you to go, usually in the NW corner, S of the red mooring buoys. Various landing places, but the quay by the black statue of the Madonna (with illuminated halo at night) is close to the fruit and veg market and also the fish market although no supermarket close by.

Marina Columbus (Tel. 393 94 77 497) Directly ahead of you as you enter. Run by the ever helpful Francesco Minaudo and with basic but very clean facilities in a portacabin. Subject to a good deal of wash from ferries and fishing boats but very close to the markets mentioned above. 45 Euro/night for 11.55m in June.

Marina di Levante (Tel. 0923 25399/3290 331748) This and the following 2 marinas are quite small and in the E arm of the harbour. For 11.55m, 70 Euro 1st night, 30 Euro each subsequent night.

Marina Arturo Stabile (Tel. 0923 593967) 50 Euro/night for 11.55m in June. Helpful staff and very close to the best self-service launderette in Sicily (Lavaseruga, Via Funai, almost opposite the marina entrance). No supermarket close by but good fruit and veg shops and butchers in Via Virgilo, one street back.

Boat Service Trapani (Tel. 923 29240/349 6618276) 30 Euros/night for 11.55m in June. Not tried personally, but a large operationashore with extensive lay-up facilities and a travel hoist up to 200T.

Favignana – 37°55.54'N, 12°19.36'E
Best not to anchor N of an E-W line through the conspic. Florio Villa; the ferry drops its anchor there!

Marsala – 37°47.18'N, 12°26.18'E
Half the price of Trapani (25Euro for 11.55m in June and July) and closer to Birgi airport (although not such a good bus service - taxi about 30 Euros). Office will arrange for a car to collect you and ake you to and from a quite good SISA supermarket on the outskirts of the town.

Cafe/shop on site has fresh bread daily (opens around 7am). Nearest laundry (not self-service) in Piazza Pizzo, 10 min. walk away. None of the chandleries in the area have charts.

(Sept 2009) Only available berths in marina at time of arrival were without ground lines, so had to use anchor and go stern to pontoon. (€41 /night for 12.50 metre boat.) WNW-ESE angled wave breaker (not shown in Heikell) on south side of marina provides some protection. No English spoken but not a problem. Good showers and toilets in portacabin behind office though female crew complained of no locks on doors in the ladies side. Fuel dock between pontoons has reasonable access with depths over 2 meters, though limited manoeuvring space could be a problem if wind blowing.

Sciacca – 37°30.30'N, 13°05.00'E
Both Y.C. Corallo (1st pontoon with a hammerhead) and Lega Navale (2nd pontoon with hammerhead) welcome visitors.

Lega Navale charge 25 euro/night for 11.55m (June and July 2011) and have excellent facilities including a launderette and a small but very good restaurant/bar.

Very good supermarket close by, across the car park. Good chandler who has a reasonable selection of charts - ask directions from the helpful lady in the office.

It is possible to anchor E and slightly N of the main Lega Navale pontoon. You may also get away with a night on the quay S of the fuel berth but are likely to be chased away by the Guardia Costeria in the morning. Note the dome topped 'bollards ' on this quay are not attached to anything!

San Leone – 37°15.30'N, 13°34.50'E
A new (2011) pontoon has been installed to the S of the western pontoons in about 3.5m The S side of the entrance has silted but in July 2011 we found about 4m by sticking close to the N side of the entrance.

40 Euros a night for 11.55m with no real facilities is a bit steep but this is a really good place to be if you want to visit the Valle dei Tempi in Agrigento (a worthwhile trip) - it 's about 1 Euro bus ride.

Anchoring outside, to the N and E of the entrance seems to be possible also.

Licata – 37°05.36'N, 13°56.40'E
A large, new and purpose built marina is now operational on the E side of the harbour although, as yet, only two (quite long)pontoons, a quay side and suberb shore facilities (but no fuel)have been completed. Masses of room at present. An excellent supermarket on site. Embarassingly helpful staff.

One of the ormaggiatori will hand you the business end of the mooring line from his RIB as you pass him on the way in to the berth, so you will need someone on the bow to take it (assuming you are going stern to).

55 Euro a night in June 2011 for 11.80m but a 20% discount if you happen also to be a CA member.

Ragusa – 34°46.36'N, 14°33.00'E
A relatively new and very large marina with very good facilities (inc. fuel) but the daily rate is a bit expensive (55 Euro for 11.80m in June). Winter lay-up afloat and longer term berthing are, however, very reasonable. Lots of room. A mini-market on site; nearest decent one is a bit of a hike.
