Sea Safety Service, Grenada, advises that UML Mk5 autoinflators, used in leisure and commercial lifejackets have issued a safety advisory. Various manufacturers have utilized this autoinflator. Check your lifejackets and if your jacket has this autoinflator, (see photo below) contact an authorized servicer near you.
SERVICE & SAFETY BULLETIN
PRODUCTS AFFECTED: All auto inflate life jackets fitted with the UML Mk5 Auto Inflator.
SUMMARY: UML (United Moulders Limited) have introduced a new gas seal. This is designed to produce a greater locking seal on the gas seal of the life jacket inflation cylinder. This will reduce the possibility of cylinders becoming loose and failing to deploy correctly. This new seal has been designed and developed to compensate for the relatively wide tolerance on the CO2 cylinder threads thus providing a better locking face seal.
ACTION REQUIRED: At next service date, or sooner if possible, please ensure that the old O-ring seal is replaced by the new flat seal and that the cylinder is seated and tightened correctly.
NOTE: To identify if your life jackets use the UML Mk5 Auto Inflator, look for the markings as indicated in the photo below. The replacement part number is IU-UM1601 and should be available from all good service stations who are certified to service these items.
FURTHER INFORMATION: Further information may be obtained from the manufacturer of your life jackets
