Sailing solo, I crossed the Pacific from Canada to Japan via Hawaii and then spent six years cruising Japan, including three years to do the first full circumnavigation of the Japanese archipelago by a foreigner. I then met a woman at a marina, married her, and settled in Japan permanently. Japan is a great place to cruise -- safe; friendly people; beautiful scenery; rich history and culture; great food; and much more.
