Join Carol, Marlon, and Mike as we stumble through the world on our Valiant 42. So far we've sailed the Bahamas, US East Coast, Nova Scotia, the Lesser Antilles, the Azores, Spain, Portugal and Italy. With a stop in the UK.

Hi Mike,
Good to see another Valiant 42 in the Med. We (on Alchemy, V42-128) spent 12 years in Europe (6 years in the Med and 6 in Northern Europe) returning to North America in 2017. We loved it all. This was after a number of years in the haunts on the US/Bahamas/Carib side of the pond that you mentioned. Alchemy is now in Newfoundland.
I read a bit of your blog. The winds in the Med are a challenge and a Valiant is definitely a blue water boat. We learned a lot about making our boat go well in the extremes that the Med offers in abundance: both the very light wind days and the heavy wind days. So much so that our mileage in the Med approached our usual ¾ under sail.
That learning has been much appreciated when we moved on to Northern Europe.
Enjoy, stay safe, Dick Stevenson, s/v Alchemy

Hi Dick,

We'd love to talk further about your experiences. We too are thinking about the Baltic, so any and all advice gratefully received. I'll send you a note via email.

All the best,

Mike & Carol
