There was a lengthy thread on the Facebook page on weather routing for the North Atlantic. I thought it would be useful to continue the discussion here. I just came across this article about a specialist in high latitudes. So I'll kick it off here.

https://www.oceannavigator.com/high-latitude-weather-routing/

"Weather routing experts are a fairly exclusive bunch. It’s a profession that requires not only deep meteorological knowledge but also a knack for translating weather data into useable info for vessels at sea. One weather router based in Iceland, Maik Broetzmann, is in an even more exclusive club: He specializes in routing for high-latitude waters, where ordinary weather and waves are joined by ice as a factor in the routing equation. Broetzmann is the founder of HafStrand (www.haf-strand.com), a marine consulting service for yachtsmen seeking adventure beyond their usual comfort zone. As a trained meteorologist and experienced yachtsman, he is passionate about supporting others in achieving their dreams. Broetzmann lives in the Westfjords of Iceland, a day’s sail from the East Greenland coast, his favorite exploration grounds."

Here's a copy of the thread from Facebook.

Brian Russell is looking for recommendations.

Regarding Weather Routers: Does anyone have any recommendations for persons or companies who specialize in the North Atlantic routes from Caribbean to the British Isles? We know Parker, and have used him, but are looking for alternatives that might be a better fit. You can PM if you wish, thanks!

There is a female weather router in Gibraltar that I have heard is very good. She was listed along with Chris and 2 others in a Sailing Magazine article2 years ago regarding Atlantic routers. I will try to find her name.

Its Stephanie Ball at Meteogib; we used them for our trip from st Martin to the Azores, and then on to Falmouth. We were very happy with the service, and can happily recommend.

Commanders weather have been very good to me in the past. I’ve also used WRI but their forecasts are data heavy - lots of pretty pictures while commanders has been text based. I currently use Windy pro but realise this isn’t accessible to all.

We’ve benefited from Chris Tibbs excellent service on several offshore passages in both the south and north atlantic ... always amazingly accurate, in both go now ... wait... ie heave too ... and go now!

I have used Commanders Weather for a crossing and was satisfied, although they seem expensive. I have been keeping a list of weather routers as they are hard to research when you need one. So, here it is with no particular recommendations or order: WX:… See More

We have used Commanders Weather for 13 years and heartily recommend them. They have saved us from sailing into rough wx on many occasions and they are a cheap insurance policy especially if you are double-handing on an ocean passage.

I see you have gotten some recommendations other than Chris Parker. We used CP from USVI to Bermuda, Azores, Ireland in 2018. We were pleased with his guidance.

I’m not sure if you are looking for a weather router with a different style, or if you think Chris Parker’s expertise is limited to the Caribbean. So I thought you’d like to know that in 2015 we used Chris Parker from the USVIs to the Azores and from the Azores to Spain. We didn’t have an SSB so all coms by email. We were very happy with the routing, and had a far more pleasant trip than those who took the ‘conventional’ route.

We employed Maik Broetzmann in 2016 and 2017 for Denmark Strait crossings.
