We shall be commissioning Al Shaheen in Nova Scotia in June and sailing her to Maine and then cruising the USA NE between Buzzard 's Bay and Maine. We hope to visit as many OCC Port Officers as we can find. John will be running the OCC NE USA SSB radio net at 0730 EDT daily on a frequency of 4045 kHz USB. Give us a call and get all your cruising friends to join the Net. CCA, RCC, CA, SSCA all welcome as well as OCC.

John and Jenny,

Before we knew any OCC members, we were told that anyone could listen in on OCC run nets (if you knew the frequency and sched) but could not participate.

Thanks for posting that members of other cruising associations are welcome. Had I known that in the Caribbean, I would have made a point of joining in as an SSCA member, introducing myself and connecting with OCC members, and signing up for membership myself.

Wish we could join you there!

Daria

Back in 2007? when John Lytle and I re-started the OCC Caribbean net we announced it as being open to OCC and RCC members. Since 2009 I have been running the NE USA SSB net each year June to September. Initially, I announced it as being open to OCC, RCC and CCA members. Last year (with a lot of help from Mary Velaque) we widened it to OCC, RCC, CCA, CA and "other cruisers in the area. We publicised it within the OCC and the CCA. In fact I don 't think we got any contacts outside OCC/RCC and CCA.

On the NE US net we do sometimes lack enough particpants to make the Net useful, so input from members of other clubs would be useful to build up numbers. Also, it does serve to highlight the OCC name with the possible effect of attracting new members, as you suggest.

I will be announcing the Net details in the May E-bulletin and the Newsletter and I think this year I 'll send a direct invitation to the RCC, CCA, CA and SSCA to publish in their newsletters/websites. I am mindful of the Cruiseheimers Net (to which we also connect) and I don 't want to compete with them. They, of course, operate year-round and cover a very much wider area- Cuba to Labrador! At peak, they have up to 80 vessels connecting so they are very much a position-reporting net.

We will be returning to River Bourgeois, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia from the Caribbean in June. Easy Go will be hauled at the Foundry in Lunenburg for some work and will remain on the hard for the rest of 2012 as we complete some other projects. If you are heading to the Bras d 'Or Lakes stop by River Bourgeois for a visit. The Mariners Society has a small wharf for visitors and there is lots of good anchoring in the inlet.

We are planning to head up to Newfoundland for the summer. We will be departing the Chesapeake Bay area in late June heading north. We plan to cruise the south coast of Newfoundland east of Burgeo. We will probably stop in Nova Scotia on the way north & south. Anyone else headed in that direction?

Hi John, that 's great to open the net to all.(good outreach) I 'm in touch with some potential OCC members on another net so will invite them over as we all get up the coast and within range. Currently in Ocracoke Outer Banks riding out a NE er. Hope to be up around Boothbay way for the July 4th. I 'm sure we shall hear you on the "net" before we actually see you again. LOL We will be spending another nice relaxed summer mountain climbing and gunkholing the Maine coast then back to Florida 's west coast with the winds of Fall.
