I did a bit of googling around the question posed above. I came across this great article on the excellent Jacaranda website describing, in detail, how and why an chain should be floated in the Tuamotu. https://www.jacarandajourney.com/floatingyourchain

We are currently cruising in Galapagos and twice in two weeks our anchor chain has wrapped itself around lumps of lava rock on the seabed and got jammed. Twice we have had to dive to depart.

Whilst diving to retrieve an anchor is good fun in the tropics we are wondering about floating our anchor chain as we near the Tuamotu and its coral bommies. We have never done this and wonder how to go about it? Presumably the float (fender) is added from a dinghy once the anchor is set? Any tips or ideas are very welcome.
