Simon,

That is utterly, utterly staggering. Short of rescheduling your trip in order to avoid having to leave the boat there for three weeks (which may well not be possible) I am frankly at a loss as to what to suggest.

All of this is a real shame as the islands are such an amazing (and very special) destination.

Richard,
Thanks for getting back to me. I pretty much expected there to be few if any aternatives. What has disconcerted me is that Torshafn want to charge a £1600 minder 's fee in addition to the £210 harbour fees for a 3 week stay. It all sounds a bit curious.

Simon,
The only place we berthed for free was Tvoroyri on the island of Suduroy. This is a fishing harbour (nicely sheltered) with few facilities for the visiting yachtsman but a very helpful harbour master. You can also clear customs here on arrival if you want to explore the island before going on to Torshavn. However, you are then faced with something of a logistical challenge - taxi to the ferry terminal on the south side of the fjord, ferry to Torshavn, taxi or bus to the airport etc. Torshavn, although expensive for your purposes, would certainly be your safest, worry-free berth with easy access to/from the airport.

Sorry not to be able to be more helpful,

Richard,
We are hoping to head to the Faroe 's this summer and leave the boat there for 3 weeks before heading on to Iceland. Struggling to find anywhere to leave the boat unattended without paying extortionate minding fees. Any tips?

Richard,
Thanks for the link. We never made it to Faroe 's last year due to family illness but hoping to go next year and onto do Iceland Circumnavigation. Hope your "mini Re-fit" goes well.

Great destination - we sailed there direct from the Solent in 2010 and then back via the Orkneys.

I 'm sure that you have everything that you need but please let us know if there is anything that we can help with.

Bill,
Yes that looks fine. Sadly we won 't be heading to the Baltic this summer so very envious of your planned trip. We will be heading north from Wales to Argyll in early May so may catch up with you on the first leg.

Would appreciate thoughts as to viability of this proposed route for 2014...

Toodle-oo! is currently in Whitehaven and we are planning to attend the Baltic Rally - reaching Bornholm, Denmark around June 10th...

We want to see as much of Scotland as we can - but with the early start of the Baltic Rally, it 's getting rather challenging. Is this a viable route with sufficient time in each spot to be able to enjoy and not feel too rushed?

Whitehaven: Depart May 4
Islay: Arr May 6 Stay 5 days
Tiree: Arr May 12 Stay 3 days
Skye: Arr May 16 Stay 5 days
Stornaway: Arr May 22 Stay 5 days
Shetland: Arr May 29 Stay 5 days
Copenhagen: Arr June 9
Bornholm: Arr June 10

Appreciate any thoughts you might have. I know we 're not doing Scotland any justice - but maybe the taste will convince the Downstairs skipper that a 2015 cruise into Scotland should be planned!

Thanks!

(I don 't suppose anyone is planning a similar route/timing and would like to tag along?)

We will be watching out for Nomad when we re-join Shimshal at Ullapool on July 20th. Will there be any other OCC boats in the area?
