Dzaoudzi – 12°47.00'S, 45°15.00'E

3) HARBOUR OR AREA COVERED Dzaoudzi, Mayotte, Comoro Is, French Indian Ocean Territory, 12°47’N 45°15’E

4) SUITABILITY AND ATTRACTION FOR YACHTS Sheltered anchorage, moorings often available, free! Good shopping for delicious French food (expensive) water & fuel available.

5) MARINAS, BERTHING OR ANCHORAGE No marina. Anchorage rather deep further out (20 metres), but moorings often available at no charge if owner away. Capitaine de port prefers you on a mooring!

6) ENTRY PORTS Dzaoudzi for Mayotte. The other three islands in the Cormoros group are not part of France, and have different rules & charges.

7) FORMAL REQUIREMENTS FOR YACHTS ENTERING/DEPARTING

a) from/to same country From same island: just come & go, no need to check in.

b) from/to abroad Ship’s papers & passports.

c) visa requirements No visas required for EU or US citizens or most others.

8) LOCATION/EXISTENCE OF

a) harbour master In a small office on W side of Dzaoudzi, but call ‘Charlie Tango’ on Ch 9 and he will come to you. He speaks little English so basic French is a great help.

b) customs/immigration Close to Port Captain’s office.

c) health authorities

d) police 9) CONTROL OF FOREIGN YACHTS None so far. Yachts stay for months or years!

10) ATTITUDE OF OFFICIALS TO VISITING YACHTSMEN Very friendly and easy going.

11) REPAIR/HAULING FACILITIES The Navy crane can haul out quite a big yacht. Space to work on hard near road. Machine shops in Kamani area (see chartlet).

12) SAILING DIRECTIONS OR CHARTS BA 2741, also French charts. The Comoros Islands will be covered in detail in the new Imray East Africa Pilot due out in 97/98.

13) PORT RADIO SERVICES Not really, but call Port Captain on VHF, Ch 9.

14) WEATHER FORECASTS None but Durban Maritime net (Alistair) gives excellent weather at 1130 UT on 13.316 MHz.

15) YACHT CLUB(S) No 16) OTHER FACILITIES -

a) drinking water At fuel dock - good quality water.

b) fuel At fuel dock

c) gas (propane)/gaz/ Mayotte Gas in Kamani Industrial Estate - expensive.

d) chandlers ‘Mayani’ store in Kamani Ind.Estate.

e) bank Several, It is possible to get cash on a VISA card

f) shops/market SNIE supermarkets. Biggest selection is in Mamoudzon. Large market for fruit & vegetables.

g) restaurants/hotels Lots, expensive!

h) post office/telephones Post offices & phones in both Dzaoudzi & Mamoudzon. Mail is slow.

i) best mailing address c/o Jacky, S.Cube, BP 129, Dzaoudzi, Mayotte, French Indian Ocean Territory. Can also help with getting parts, sending faxes etc - very nice guy. Jacky’s Fax (269) 600 394 - call him on Ch 6 - speaks English

l) transport/air services) Airport nearby. No big planes, only inter-island service. Air France to Grand Comore, best bet.

m) hospital In Dzaoudzi, health care is good and free!

n) anything else Do not try to have parts mailed here. It can take ages.

17) FIRST HAND RECOMMENDATIONS OR WARNINGS You will spend lots of money because the French food is too good to resist! Spanish wine in boxes is half the price of French wine and very good.
